What a great event! This year’s theme for the 2016 Central Exchange Leadership Lyceum, “Dare to Win,” drew a great line-up of speakers, each sharing their experience and advice to a packed ballroom at the KC Convention Center. I walked away with great insight into how each speaker dared to win, including Sarah Thomas, the first full-time female referee in the NFL, and Susan Packard, Co-founder and former chief operating officer of HGTV.
But as I look back on the day, two interwoven themes particularly resonated with me… “Dare to Act, Dare to Change.”
Mel Robbins, CNN on-air commentator, author of Stop Saying You Are Fine and How to Stop Screwing Yourself Over.
- Do you have the will to change when you know you should? And have developed an ecosystem that will push you in new directions and advocate for you along the way?
- Do you have the courage to change your business practices to support open, honest, and even vulnerable dialogue? High performing teams demand it. Without it, you’ll never know what great ideas are hidden behind fear.
Charles Duhigg, Pulitzer prize winning reporter for The New York Times, and author of Smarter, Better, Faster and The Power of Habit.
- Have you developed the mental models necessary to navigate change? Mental models help you avoid reactive thinking and help you pay attention to what really matters. As applicable in the craze of the day-to-day, as it is in times of change or crisis, mental models help you make intentional decisions about where and how to act.
Nicole Price, Vice-President Training at Cy Wakeman’s Reality-Based Leadership.
- In today’s world, change is one thing you can always count on. But traditional change management practices focus on helping people cope with and survive change … a practice that focuses on resisters of change. Instead, why not design an environment in which employees see opportunity in change instead of being threatened by it … one that rewards your model employees?
If you haven’t been before, I highly recommend putting on your list for next year!
